Hello, up for auction is this Vintage Ryoji Matsuoka No. 30 Classical guitar, handmade in Nagoya, Japan in 1972! Handsigned by Ryoji Matsuoka. Matsuoka started his workshop in the 60s and became one of the most respected luthiers at the peak of the Japanese guitar rush in the 70s and 80s, and he still heads the company making classical guitars today. His guitars always have gotten rave reviews in small circles but these days with the explosion of the Japanese vintage market and the help of lots of positive reports on forums and threads, his guitars' reputation is growing and they are becoming more sought after - especially the older ones. This particular guitar is from one of his earlier series' which came out before the exported "M" Series (the bulk of Matsuoka classicals that have been produced are "M"s) in the late 70s and which is still the current series today, so it has that extra bit of rarity value. It is in great condition, has a great vintage sound and plays REALLY well, almost effortlessly. At first glance the level of craftsmanship is evident, as is the quality of the finish. So grab this chance to grab and early Matsuoka Classical while you can and watch the value rise over the years while you enjoy this quality instrument!

  • Excellent playing condition. The neck is straight, the soundboard is flat and no lifting of the bridge. There are 3 hairline cracks in the soundboard, one below the bridge running down to the rosette and the other two above the bridge, one 10cm and 4cm. These are fine cracks, and our luthier said they're not threatening the overall stability of the instrument or it's tone. We'll let the winning bidder decide whether they want to get their luthier to fill or brace the cracks. These are the only faults on this otherwise perfect guitar. We'd normally start the bidding at $650 for this guitar, and the lowered price reflects these minor cracks. For the player, but perhaps not the collector! The fingerboard and frets are in good condition. The binding and heel joint are solid, and the tuners work well and the intonation is good. The guitar plays very nicely and has an overall feel of quality about it.
  • Excellent cosmetic condition. A fewmarks on the top, see photos. The back and sides are nice and clean. Tuners are in good condition, no rust or tarnish. There is a little bit of clouding beginning to appear on the back close to the binding.
  • Bookmatched timbers, solid Cedar top, Indian Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck, Rosewood bridge, fingerboard and headstock plate. The intricate "Flower" mosaic rosette and binding are expertly done, and the fit and finish is quality and precise.
  • Sweet tone, not short on volume! Good bass response and dynamic, and sounds clean and even.
  • Serial # 07858. Comes with vintage hardcase.
  • Please read EVERYTHING below before bidding. Good luck!
